About the Department

Established in 2018, the Department of English is dedicated to excellence in literary studies and language education. It offers Foundation English courses to all UG programmes, focusing on language proficiency and critical thinking.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (12th) in State Board or equivalent with any subject.
• Admission is based on merit and university regulations.

Purpose and Direction

• To enhance language competence across disciplines and cultivate a lasting appreciation for literature.
• Focus on workshops, clubs, and media-based teaching to bridge classroom learning with real-life communication.

Course Takeaways

Students improve grammar, vocabulary, academic writing, and oral communication while engaging with diverse literary texts. They also gain confidence and soft skills through club activities, competitions, and interactive sessions.

Notable Accomplishments

• Students won runner-up cup in overall skit, mono-act, and other competitions conducted by Hindustan Arts and Science College on 20th October 2022
• Students participated in an International Seminar conducted by Sathyabama University on World Translation Day – 30th September 2024
• Students participated in a National Level Seminar conducted by AVIT on 10th July 2025
• Faculty members and students presented papers in an International Conference on Thirukkural conducted by Takshashila University on 6th February 2026
